Nothing like expectations to keep you focused.

The BYU women's volleyball team, which opens the 2014 season at a tournament in West Virginia on Friday, was selected to finish first in the West Coast Conference by league coaches.

They would know, right?

The Cougars received nine of the 10 first-place votes, with one vote going to San Diego.

BYU returns junior outside hitter Alexa Gray from last year's Sweet 16 team and Jennifer Hamson, who led the Cougars to a Sweet 16 two seasons ago before focusing on basketball, is also back. Both players were selected to the All-WCC team by league coaches.
