When it comes to polls, you can only control what you do on the floor.

The BYU women's volleyball team, which earned a No. 9 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll, fell to 10th in the poll that came out Monday. The Cougars swept all three opponents they played at the Blue and Gold Players Challenge last weekend -- West Virginia, IUPUI and Toledo.

Two teams ranked lower than BYU last week leaped over the Cougars in the latest poll. Florida State -- No. 13 last week -- moved up to No. 8 after knocking off seventh-ranked Nebraska in Lincoln. Illinois, which was No. 11 in the first poll, won three matches at home and moved to No. 9.

Nebraska dropped matches to Florida State and No. 2 Stanford and fell out of the Top 10 to No. 12.

BYU will get an excellent opportunity to move up in the poll on Friday when it hosts No. 5 Washington. The Huskies won three matches last weekend in Boise, Idaho, including a 3-2 win against Gonzaga of the West Coast Conference.
