Texas was already reeling from losing starting center Dominic Espinosa, now this news: Starting quarterback David Ash took a hard hit in the North Texas game and won’t play on Saturday against BYU.

Texas coach Charlie Strong said in his Monday news conference that Ash, who played the whole game against North Texas, started experiencing symptoms late Saturday evening. That usually indicates some kind of concussion issues, which Ash has had before.

The starting quarterback for Texas will be 6-4, 243-pound sophomore Tyrone Swoopes. He played in six games last season, completing 6 of 13 passes and running for 70 yards and a touchdown.
