LARAMIE, Wyo. - What was supposed to be a chance for Wyoming to show how much better it was under new head coach Dave Christensen turned into just another drubbing at the hands of BYU.

Senior quarterback Max Hall was 20-of-22 for 312 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters as the Cougars steamrolled to a 52-0 win over Wyoming on Saturday.

Coming two weeks after a disappointing loss to TCU in Provo, BYU played nearly flawlessly after the bye week.

"I don't think we ever lost our confidence or our swagger, or our excitement to play with each other," Hall said. "That's what I love about this group of guys, especially the seniors. We're really close, we're playing for each other and everything counts."

BYU has outscored Wyoming 96-0 in the past two meetings. Since the Cowboys edged the Cougars 13-10 in 2003, the Cougars have won six straight meetings by a combined score of 245-51.

The domination started early on Saturday, as the Cougars (7-2, 4-1 MWC) scored on their opening drive. On third-and-7, Hall found running back J.J DiLuigi wide open down the sideline for a 44-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. After a Mitch Payne field goal, BYU took a 17-0 lead on a 2-yard pass from Hall to fullback Manase Tonga.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Cougars made it 24-0 on a 79-yard touchdown pass from Hall to wide receiver McKay Jacobson, marking his first appearance since going down with a hamstring injury in warm-ups before the Utah State game in early October.

BYU led 31-0 after a 6-yard scoring run by Tonga with 4:24 left in the first half. At that point, the Cougars had 358 total yards to Wyoming's 25.

The Cowboys drove to the BYU 7 as time wound down at the end of the first half but failed to score, trailing 31-0 at the half.

For the first time this season, BYU scored on its first drive of the second half. An eight-play, 65-yard drive was capped by a 2-yard touchdown run by Bryan Kariya for a 38-0 advantage.

Besides Hall's big day, DiLuigi caught five passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns, and Tonga also scored twice. Jacobson finished with three catches for 100 yards. Junior running back Harvey Unga had 16 carries for 85 yards as BYU totaled 243 rushing yards and 543 total.

"When you have to sit two weeks with that bad taste of defeat in your mouth, it motivated a lot of guys to work hard," BYU junior safety Andrew Rich said. "We were able to re-evaluate our team, and where we were going. I thought all across the board today we were tremendous.

"I felt the swagger out there today. Credit to our coaches for preparing us."

Wyoming (4-5, 2-3) was led by freshman quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels, who was 14-of-23 for 108 yards. He was sacked four times, including twice by Jan Jorgensen.

BYU recorded its first shutout of the season and second consecutive against the Cowboys. The Cougars beat Wyoming 44-0 last year. It was the most lopsided loss for Wyoming since 1985.

"I think our players responded well and played well against a very-much improved Wyoming team," BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "We played very clean football and played very well from beginning to end. I was impressed."

BYU will travel to Albuquerque next week for a game against winless New Mexico. Wyoming will be at San Diego State.
