• Making an impact: BYU commit Hauoli Jamora (6-2 230 DE) has been a force in two Kahuku (Hawaii) playoff wins. In last week's 24-20 victory over Leilehua for the OAI title, Jamora had five sacks and recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.
"I think the sacks (were more satisfying) because the touchdown was kind of given," Jamora told the Honolulu Advertiser. "The ball was just there."
Kahuku (11-0) gets a bye for the first round of the Division I state tournament and plays in one semifinal on Nov. 27 at Aloha Stadium.
• Rebound: Skyline (Wash.) came back from last week's disappointing loss to Bothell in the KingCo. championship game to shut out Kentridge 42-0 to open the playoffs. BYU commit Jake Heaps (6-2 190 QB) completed his first 10 passes and finished 20-of-24 for 298 yards and three touchdowns. Heaps, who was playing the final time on his home turf, also ran for a score.
"There's no excuses," Heaps told the Seattle Times. "This is about coming out and enjoying the moment. I think this team has the right mentality. We're happy with this one, but we've got a long way to go to get that state championship."
• That's all: The season came to an end for three BYU commits from Texas. Arlington Oakridge lost to Fort Worth Trinity Valley 40-35 in the first round of the playoffs. BYU commit Ross Apo (6-4 200 WR) caught three passes for 33 yards and also returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown. Apo finished the year with 36 catches for 810 yards (22.5 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns. Teammate Teu Kautai (6-1 190 DB/LB), also a BYU commit, ended the year with 371 yards rushing on 42 carries (8.8 yards per carry) and seven scores. The other BYU commit for Oakridge is lineman Tayo Fabuluje (6-6 255).

• Easy win: Timpview (Utah) blasted Spanish Fork 57-22 in the Class 4A quarterfinals. BYU prospect Bryson McKenzie (6-0 215 RB) continued his strong playoff performance with 100 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. Timpview (9-2) plays top-ranked Mountain Crest in the semifinals on Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
• End of the road: Pleasant Grove (Utah) was eliminated from the Class 5A playoffs with a 17-9 loss at Davis. Stanford commit Dallas Lloyd (QB) didn't play because of a broken bone in his leg and BYU commit Bryan Sampson (6-4 215 WR/TE) also missed the game because of an injury.
• Missed him: Last week, TotalBlueSports.com reported that BYU had offered Citrus (Calif.) Community College defensive back Christyn Lewis (6-2 165). According to the Citrus CC Web site, Lewis committed to the University of Minnesota after a weekend visit. This season, Lewis has 33 tackles, one interception, six pass break-ups, a forced fumble and two blocked kicks.
• Big finish: An incredible high school football career came to a close last week as Boaz (Ala.) lost to Athens 28-21 in the first round of the state playoffs. BYU commit Drew Phillips (6-0 185 RB) ran for 182 yards on 29 carries and had four catches for 43 yards in the loss. He scored twice on a 52-yard run and a 17-yard pass reception. Phillips finished his career with 5,575 rushing yards, 19th all-time in the state of Alabama.
• Stout defense: Oaks Christian (Calif.) has won 18 straight league games after a 49-6 victory over Santa Clara. The defense, led by BYU commits Zac Stout (6-2 220 LB) and Alani Fui (6-4 210 LB) has allowed opponents just 5.2 points per game this season.
• League champs: Santa Clarita Chrisitian (Calif.) ran its record to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in league play with a 40-34 victory over Faith Baptist. BYU commit Collin Keoshian (6-2 225 RB/LB) ran for 174 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries.

Moore scored on runs of four and seven yards to get Murrieta Valley off and running. He finished with 129 yards on the ground and 20 more on two pass receptions.
• Held in check: BYU commit Jordan Johnson (5-10 175 QB/DB) was held to just 26 yards on 14 carries but sophomore teammate Andrew Coke made up the difference with 117 yards on 11 carries as Brooks School (Mass.) defeated Nobles 23-0. Johnson also threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jason Buco.
• Big numbers: BYU prospect Brandon Bourbon (6-1 209 RB) made the most of his seven carries, rolling for 254 yards and three touchdowns before halftime as Potosi (Mo.) beat Dexter 56-20. Bourbon had scoring runs of 52, 72 and 47 as he broke his own single-season school rushing record.
