ZUKE: Match up the nicknames and win a prize

Sep 01, 2009 | 8:15 pm | Loading…

After an amazing Week 1 of the high school football season, I have already been coming up with some nicknames for a new batch of stars.

Let me run a few past you.

Josh "Oh my Gosh" Adams, Salem Hills quarterback who put on a show last week against Orem.

Bronson "The Monster" Kaufusi, who is as close to unblockable as there is.

Joe "The Nightmare" Kruger, given to him by the Timpview offensive line.

James "You can't contain him" Emerson.

Rhett "Brewer fan" Nelson. He will come around eventually.

Ethan "Goodnight" Wright. He puts the game to bed.

If you have some of your own that you would like me to mention, send me an e-mail to greatzuke@excite.com.

You may not know this but may of the contestants of this, contest have nicknames too.

Here's a few you might remember. Psychic Sid Krommenhoek. Casey "Error" Rehrer. Brady "The Caboose" Duncan. David "Big Daddy" Bice. Bobby "The Legend" Eckles. "Off the Mark" Lopez and who could forget about Drew "I have no Clue" Davis?

Ah memories.

I noticed some of you had no clue in week one and need a little help. So I've offered you a little quiz this week for extra credit. I will give the contestant that matches up the most nicknames with the correct person a prize from the Zuke prize vault. In case of a tie, whoever e-mails me first wins.

Let's see if you can find the matches. Ready. Here were go.

1. The Great One (He's a clue. Ah hem).

2. Clueless

3. In the dark

4. Run of the Mill

5. I left Millard in shambles

6. Ding dong

7. Aces

8. Flash in the pan again

Now match those names up with these people.

The Great Zucchini

Lynn Anderson

Quincy Lewis

Chad Daybell

Paul Clark

Kyle Flanagan

Phill Morgan

Frank Bramall

Good luck. Now let's get to this week's winners. If you would like to enter the contest go to www.beatthezuke.com/beatthezuke.

Timpview at Highland (Idaho)

The 0-2 T'Birds? Now there's something I thought I would never say, but it's possible. Highland is coming off a state championship Idaho and this Pocatello team has been a traditional power.

Come on, Timpview 0-2. I can't fathom it. The Monster is too dominant and Chris Badger is too good good to let this team start 0-2.

• Timpview 28, Highland 21

Westlake at Maple Mountain

Both teams are coming off losses in the first week, but even though this game is on the road, I'm still high on the Thunder. John Ursua will break the 100-yard barrier and score twice.

• Westlake 20, Maple Mountain 9

Payson at Orem

No one panic. Two years ago, Orem started off the year 0-2 and was outscored 54-8 in its first two games. The Tigers went on to win six games and nearly upset Bountiful in the first round of the playoffs. Jeremiah Tiatia will get this team back on track.

• Orem 23, Payson 16

Salem Hills at Desert Hills

I told you Salem Hills was good. Okay, so I picked Orem last week, details, details. It was a practice week. The Skyhawks. First basketball coach Jimmy DeGraffenried shocks the world last year with the basket team's run.

Now the second-year Skyhawks are making a statement with the pig skin.

What's next? The baseball team beating out Spanish Fork to win the region?

• Salem Hills 27, Desert Hills 14

Spanish Fork at Bountiful

As much as I liked Travis Still's performance last week, what Bountiful did to Lone Peak's offense gave me shivers. The Braves forced turnovers, put pressure on the passing game and held a very good team to nine points.

Gulp!

• Bountiful 24, Spanish Fork 14

Lehi at Springville

Riverton scored 44 points last week against Lehi and Riverton does not have a Jordan Sumsion. What can I say. It looks like me and the Red Devils are on the same team.

Springville 28, Lehi 13

Provo at Stansbury

I thought I would help out the Stansbury public address announcer.

It's pronounced Ry-near and Gry-ner.

As in Seth Rhineer to Matt Griner. He will be saying those names all night.

• Provo 38, Stansbury 20

Pleasant Grove at Timpanogos

Since Timpanogos is an overwhelming underdog in this game, I thought I would give the T'Wolves a few words of encouragement, you know try to fire them up so they can make a game of it.

Pizza is on Bramall if you win.

Pleasant Grove only won its first game by six points. That's nothing. You won by nine.

Win one for Norley!

It's not working.

• Pleasant Grove 35, Timpanogos 9

Logan at Mountain View

How would you like to be Logan's defensive coordinator? In the first week against Bear River the Grizzlies surrendered 60 points. If you think that was bad wait until this week when Logan must try to slow down James "You can't contain him" Emerson. Good luck with that.

• Mountain View 34, Logan 24

Riverton at American Fork

Riverton's defense is coming off a shut out. What does that mean to American Fork running back Cade Zarbuck? Motivation.

• American Fork 21, Riverton 16

Butler's defense has come alive. Laron Scott returned a interception 39 yards for a touchdown and a Snow fumble in its own territory set up a Randall Bell 1-yard run. Butler now leads 20-7 with 6:34 left in the first half.

Both teams missed field goals. Butler missed one from 32 yards out and Snow missed a 42-yard field goal when it hit the left upright.

8:22

Snow answered right back. The Badgers have tied the score at 7-7. A 23-yard pass to Sam Thomas set up a 2-yard touchdown run from Tyson Church. Both teams have now scored on their first possession.

1st Quarter

11:18: It didn't take Butler long to score on Snow. Butler took the opening kickoff and promptly scored to take a 7-0 lead. Randall Bell scored from 3-yards out.. 1 ranked Snow College will take on No. 2 ranked Butler College in a game that will decide the national junior college champion.
