After all the practices in 95-degree weather, the games in the wind and the rain, the blood, sweat and tears that go with any athletic season, it all comes down to this: Two teams and one game in a very fancy setting.

The Timpanogos girls soccer team takes on Bonneville at 4:30 p.m. today at Rio Tinto Stadium to decide the 4A state title.

"We're very happy to be here," said Timberwolves' coach Natalyn Lewis. "This is an exciting opportunity for our team and we hope to make the most of it."

Timpanogos (15-3) earned the trip to the championship game with a 2-1 victory over Springville Tuesday evening, while the Lakers (15-2) ended Lehi's season that afternoon by the same score.

"Of course, we took the chance to watch that game," the coach said. "Bonneville is a very skilled team and they are good at maintaining possession. Obviously they know how to win games to get this far, but we definitely feel we can play ball with them."

The Region 5 champion Lakers build their offense around a pair of speedy and opportunistic forwards in senior Abby Ulrich and junior Jaiden Thornock, who have provided a lot of firepower both during the season and in the playoffs.

They also have a very capable netminder in senior Britty McGregor and are solid in the midfield and the back line.

The Timberwolves are equally balanced and talented, however.

"My three forwards, McKenzie (Adams), Marissa (Nimmer) and Gel (Angelica Dickson) continue to be a major part of our success," Lewis said. Junior Alexa Anderson is the goalkeeper and gave up multiple scores in a game only three times all season.

"As I look at our midfielders and our back line, I don't see any position where we don't have strengths," the coach continued.

She believes one of the keys for her squad will be maintaining poise.

"This is going to be an amazing game, and to play at Rio Tinto is going to be very exciting," she said. "I want the girls to be excited, but in order for us to succeed, we're going to have to keep our heads and maintain our calm and confidence.

"In addition, we're going to have to play as a team, execute at a fast speed and play under control," Lewis added. "If we do those things and keep our composure, we have a really good shot at this tomorrow.

"The possibility is there, but we're going to have to play well to take it," the coach concluded.
