Jive Communications announced a new company initiative to give back to the community right where Jive employees live, work and play.
Mike Sharp, chief product officer and co-founder of Jive, announced the formation of the Jive Foundation Tuesday morning. The Jive Foundation is a fund with the focus to provide financial contributions to nonprofit organizations. Jive employees can refer 501©(3) nonprofits to the Foundation for donations totaling in the few thousand dollar range.
“We’ve been bouncing this idea around for three or four years now,” Sharp said after the announcement. “I think this is a great opportunity for us to do more good.”
The Jive Foundation caps off a year of community service for Jive. To celebrate the company’s 10-year anniversary, Jive employees completed 10 acts of service, ranging from blanket drives and book donations, to spending time with Utah veterans and helping at the Humane Society of Utah.
Sharp said these service opportunities have been important, but the new Foundation gives even more employees the chance to effect change. The goal of the foundation is to give five to 10 grants to local organizations each month, with those recommendations coming from employees where they live and work. Jive, an Orem-based provider of cloud-based phone systems and unified communications services, has locations in Utah, Canada, Guatemala, Brazil and Mexico.
“We’ve reached many milestones this past year, but the Jive Foundation is really special. It’s a chance to give back to the community that has given us opportunities to thrive and grow, and we’re excited to see our employees get involved and have a direct impact on causes they’re passionate about,” said John Pope, CEO of Jive, after the announcement. “Giving is so much better when it’s personal.”
According to Sterling Snow, Jive marketing communications manager, within just the first 20 minutes after Tuesday’s announcement, employees had already nominated more than 10 organizations.
