From the Utah Lake Festival to the Vineyard Heritage Festival, a community luau to Pop Con, there are plenty of ways to enjoy all that the area has to offer this weekend. Here are our five tips!

Head to Vineyard’s Heritage Celebration
Utah County’s stream of city celebrations continues this weekend as the city of Vineyard celebrates its 30-year anniversary. The festivities include a two-day Heritage Celebration featuring a carnival, fireworks, The Strike in concert, pioneer-era activities, a movie in the park and more. The fun is set for 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Vineyard Grove Park, 350 N. 100 East in Vineyard with more details at this link.
Visit the Utah Lake Festival
One of the best things about warmer weather (if the rain ever stops) is the chance to head outside and enjoy all the beautiful things the Utah Valley has to offer, including Utah Lake, which you can do at the Utah Lake Festival this weekend.
This year’s festival is set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Utah Lake State Park, 4400 W. Center St. in Provo. Festival activities include boat rides, free swag, a sailboat regatta, live music, food trucks, free fishing instruction and more, with new activities every year. Park entrance is free, and the festival will include a series of informational booths and the chance to win a variety of prizes. Get more details on the festival here.
Laugh it up at Velour
If you haven’t yet been to a comedy night at Velour Live Music Gallery, 135 N. University Ave. in Provo, consider changing that this weekend.
Friday at 7:30 p.m. Provo’s Comedy Killers will hit the stage, featuring stand-up comedy by Steve Soelberg, Pete Jr., John Deming, Brandon Henderson and Kortney Osborne. Tickets are $10 with more information at this link.
If comedy’s not your cup of tea, the venue will get back to music Saturday night at 8 p.m. with a show featuring Creatively Bound, Kage Hughart Project, The Schwacksters and Roz Harding with tickets priced at $8 and details here.
Celebrate pop culture
You don’t need to go on an epic road trip to find a place where you can celebrate pop culture, fandoms, anime, gaming, cosplay and more, just head to Pop Con (Pop Culture Convention), set for this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Utah Valley Convention Center (220 W. Center St. in Provo).
Tickets are just $20 for full day admission, and allow participants to access panels, cosplay, an exhibitor hall and more. For more details on the convention or to purchase tickets, visit popcultureconvention.com. You can also read more about the event in the Daily Herald’s feature story at heraldextra.com/entertainment.
Enjoy a luau
Making it to the weekend is certainly something to celebrate, and you can do that this weekend at University Place, 575 E. University Parkway in Orem. Experience the enchantment of Fire Knife Dancers, learn authentic Polynesian dances, enjoy delicious exotic drinks, get an airbrush tattoo or participate in a variety of games and concerts for a chance to win prizes at the venue’s Summer Luau Kick Off this weekend. Events are set for 7-9 p.m. Saturday with more details here.
