Rex was born February 10, 1954 in Lovell, Wyoming to John Rex and Mary Croft Kocherhans, the 4th of 11 children. As a child, he was an outstanding athlete but was unable to continue playing sports when he was diagnosed with a heart defect at age 12. He then turned his passions to music. He graduated from Orem High School and served an LDS mission in Los Angeles, California. On July 9, 1976, he married the love of his life, Jan, in the Los Angeles, California LDS Temple. Despite its inherited defects, Rex’s heart overflowed with love, kindness, and generosity. He was a gifted therapist at Cottontree Family Practice and loved his colleagues there. Through his work, he helped save many marriages and lives. He had a warm, infectious laugh and the kindest smile. He was a talented musician and blessed his children’s lives with a passion for music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and was a talented guitarist. He greatly enjoyed singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and performed lead roles in community theater productions. He loved to fish, took pleasure in keeping a beautiful yard, and was an avid BYU sports fan. He was a jack of all trades and was always eager to help when a car or cupboard door needed fixing. He was a faithful member of the LDS church throughout his life and served faithfully in many callings. Rex will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Jan, his 8 children: Rex Jr. (Kate) Kocherhans, Becky (Andy) Johnson, Haley (Matt) Gibby, Cody, Brett, Katie, Kyle, McKenzie, 8 grandchildren, his mother and 10 siblings.
