The lazy days of summer don’t have to be so lazy. Summer programs for kids are available in a variety of activities to keep kids busy and having fun. Most are free or for a nominal fee, so fill up the calendar with some of these:

Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse

Each week, Cinemark theaters in the valley are offering showings of movies rated “G” or “PG” at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This program actually started at the beginning of the month, but tickets can be purchased at the box office for $1 per show. Check out Cinemark’s website at www.cinemark.com/summer-movie-clubhouse for a coupon for $1 off a Movie Snack Pack.

The movie schedule is as follows:

? Tuesday and Thursday: “Despicable Me” (PG)

? July 5 & 7: “Monsters vs. Aliens” (PG)

? July 12 & 14: “Ramona and Beezus” (G)

? July 19 & 21: “Yogi Bear” (PG)

? July 26 & 28: “Madagascar 2” (PG)

? Aug. 2 & 4: “Open Season 3” (PG)

? Aug. 9 & 11: “Kung Fu Panda” (PG)

Participating theaters include Cinemark American Fork; Cinemark University Mall; and Cinemark 16 in Provo.

Michaels Crafts Passport to Fun

Kids love to create things, and at Michaels Crafts stores, kids can join the Passport to Fun program. Staff members take kids on a world tour of 18 countries and create take-home crafts that represent the different cultures. For example, on July 2, the country is the United States, and crafts include a log cabin caddy, a bead flag pin and a warrior shield.

Here is the travel itinerary:

? Tuesday: Bahamas

? Thursday: Canada

? July 2: United States

? July 5: Italy

? July 7: Australia

? July 9: India

? July 12: Russia

? July 14: France

? July 16: United Kingdom

? July 19: Japan

? July 21: Greece

? July 23: Mexico

? July 25: Egypt

? July 26: China

? July 28: South Africa

? July 30: Brazil

Even if programs have passed, you can visit the website for a materials list and project instructions. Go to the Orem store’s website for a link to the Passport to Fun page at locations.michaels.com/UT/OREM/8003/index.html

On the Passport to Fun page, you’ll also find more information about the program and the costs of the crafts. Michaels Crafts is at 321 E. 1300 South in Orem.

Kids Bowl Free

Visit www.kidsbowlfree.com to register for this summer program. Miracle Bowl, at 1585 S. State St. in Orem, is the only alley in Utah County participating in this program.

The program offers kids two free games per day, all summer long. Shoe rental is not included, so you’ll need a few dollars to get started. Miracle Bowl is offering the program through Sept. 15, with set hours seven days a week.

You can register at multiple bowling alleys (there are participating alleys in Sandy and West Jordan among other Utah cities) but you’ll need to register individually for each one.
