On Saturday afternoon, January 5, 2013 our mother and grandmother Geneva Wight Adamson passed away peacefully in Highland, Utah. From the mortal embrace of family into the arms of the same anxiously awaiting her arrival in the life beyond, she left us after more than 100 years of a life worthy of emulation. For her we are happy, for ourselves we are sad and will miss her.
She was born July 2, 1912, in Lehi, Ut., to James Hurren and Elizabeth (Powell) Wight. Always a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she loved and diligently served her Heavenly Father. On September 7, 1928, she married the love of her life, Leland Myers Adamson in Provo, Ut. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 22, 1932. They were the proud parents of five daughters. They lived happily together and enjoyed their family and hosts of friends in the towns in which they lived until he passed away in April of 1960 in Vernal, Ut. To her posterity, never having the chance to meet him, she remembered Lee as a loyal man who took his family and his love of life seriously. She never remarried and instead dedicated the next 52 years to her family.
She leaves a legacy of service, sacrifice and love. She held numerous ward and stake callings. She also served in the Provo and Mt. Timpanogos temples for many years. She loved to travel and enjoyed an active life at home. Her sense of humor (along with her rice pudding) is legendary and even on her last day demonstrated wit, compassion and determination to be up “doing.” A woman who always had to be accomplishing, she was always walking.
She is survived by her daughters: Jeanene Davis of Highland, Claudia (Lewis) Black of Blanding, Soni (Fred) Babbel of American Fork, also 19 of her 20 grandchildren, all 62 of her great-grand children and all 20 of her great-great grand children. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, daughters Darlene Adamson and Bonnie A. Caldwell, son in law Elder C. Max Caldwell, brothers Roy and Jay Wight, sisters Beth Fairbourn and Fern Frost, also a grandson Randall Max Caldwell
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Highland LDS Stake Center Chapel, 5335 West 11200 North, Highland, Utah. Family and friends are invited to a viewing at the church from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to services. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the American Fork City Cemetery.
