Patrick Dougherty's "Windswept" installation is shown at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art on Nov. 7.

Utah County is a great place for family fun, with events across the valley for all ages.

Here are five fun events that are perfect for the whole family this week:

Learn about another culture

According to the Covey Center for the Arts, “Hafla” means a “social gathering” or “party” with music and dancing, so gear up for an evening of social family fun at the Gypsy Hafla. The evening promises a night celebrating both the sights and sounds of “an ancient art form” with tickets just $5 for adults, $3 for ages 3 and up and free for younger children.

When: Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Covey Center for the Arts, 425 W. Center St. in Provo

Experience animals up close

If you’re looking for the chance to learn a little more about our animal friends, head to the Hutchings Museum in Lehi for its weekly animal show. Not only can you gain some fun facts about our creature counterparts, you can also experience them up close with a donation of $4 for adults and $3 for children.

When: Thursdays at 4 p.m.

Where: Hutchings Museum, 44 N. Center St. in Lehi

Get ‘Windswept’

One of the newer exhibits at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art will sweep you away: Patrick Dougherty’s “Windswept” exhibition transforms its space into an area reminiscent of a windswept mountain, with massive contemporary art pieces sculpted from branches of wood. The exhibit is an impressive one to experience, and is free and open to the public.

When: Each Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 19

Catch a flick

If you’re a fan of film, there’s no better place to be this week than at the Covey Center for the Arts for the Utah Film Festival. With screenings and premieres throughout Friday and Saturday and tickets just $5 for general admission, it’s a great chance to enjoy top-notch cinema with something for everyone.
