The main lodge of the Wasatch Wing and Clay shooting range was destroyed in a fire that started early Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017.
The Wasatch Wing and Clay shooting range is a total loss after a fire destroyed the main lodge in the early morning hours Thursday.
According to Taylor Sandstrom with Unified Fire Authority, a motorist called the fire in at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday. Arriving crews could see the immense blaze at the Cedar Fort shooting range from a couple miles away before they even arrived on scene.
The building was fully involved by the time crews arrived on scene.
“It’s in a remote area,” Sandstrom said. “By the time somebody saw the fire and called it in, it could’ve been burning for a while.”
The fire was also a challenge to battle, as there weren’t any hydrants for about two miles. Water had to be shuttled in, though Sandstrom noted it likely would not have made a difference, considering the size of the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire and crews from Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Unified Fire Authority fought the fire for hours.
A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
