Not long ago, I wrote about some training that is being presented through the Melisa Nellesen Autism Center at Utah Valley University. The training is designed to help first responders who serve the community with a practical understanding of the best practices when responding to a crisis involving a person with autism.

I was happy when I received a flier from the Utah Parent Center, to see that they too are addressing this important topic with parents and caregivers. “Parents of children with disabilities, frequently worry about their safety, especially when they are at school or in the community. What happens if they get lost or have a medical emergency? What happens to our children and adult children if Law Enforcement gets involved? In this workshop we will explore options for tracking devices, safety implementation, and safety programs offered by local Law Enforcement agencies. Presented by URLEND.” (Utah Regional Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities”.

The online Zoom training will be held Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration is available on the Utah Parent Website: http://utahparentcenter.org.

Also, the Utah Parent Center and Family to Family Network is looking for parents and caregivers of individuals with special needs. There is a staffing crisis in the state that affects the services that should be provided. This online Zoom discussion will teach parents how to advocate with their legislators on behalf of their loved one. The meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is available now at the Utah Parent Center website.
