The executive committee of United Way's board meet at United Way.

At the beginning of another year, I have been thinking of the challenges we have all been facing and the way we at United Way have worked to provide ever expanding services despite these challenges. I believe one of the ways we have been able to accomplish this is through our great community board leadership.

One of the principles of good nonprofit governance is having a volunteer board that helps the organization meet its legal and fiduciary requirements but also helps set community priorities and ensure that the organization has the greatest possible impact for the community.

United Way of Utah County is very fortunate to have a strong board with members who have remarkably high credentials and expertise. With their skills and talents, they not only provide appropriate legal and financial oversight, but they are also essential in developing strategies to find the best way to help children in our community and those who surround them.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to some of the individuals who represent the community on the executive committee of our board of directors. The executive committee is part of our larger board of directors, which is also made up of many remarkable individuals.

Amy Magleby is the senior credit manager at Zions Bank and also oversees the United Way finance and operations committee. She leads a group of skilled volunteers who regularly and consistently ensure that United Way is following best practices when it comes to the organizational and financial aspects of our organization.

Chad Doehring, chief operating officer at Duncan Aviation, heads up our resource development committee. He spends many hours of his time working with the extraordinary businesses and organization partners who give their employees the opportunity to give to United Way.

Lori Thorn is the director of student services with the Alpine School District and chairs our community investment committee. She has a career’s worth of expertise working with children and schools, which has been invaluable in United Way’s focus on children in Utah County.

Devin Baer is the director of sales at Google Fiber and has great expertise in communications and business operations. His skills are extremely helpful in our own communications and business efforts, and he is regularly involved in participating in and promoting our many programs.

Mari Heimuli is the marketing director of OptumInsight, a UnitedHealth Group company. She provides direction for United Way in our own strategic marketing efforts, which is invaluable in our work to consistently and effectively communicate with our community.

Mike Roberts is the managing director of alumni and external relations at Brigham Young University. He has had an extensive career in the tech industry with an expertise in branding. His experience and skills relating to the customer extend to his work in providing direction on our board.

Bill Hulterstrom is president and CEO of United Way of Utah County.

Bret VanAusdal, president and CEO of Utah Community Credit Union, is the chair-elect on our board. His world of expertise in the financial world is perfectly aligned with our EveryDay Support efforts in building financial stability for families in Utah County.

The current chair of our board is Scott Barlow, the CEO of Revere Health. He is a passionate advocate for health care and mental health in our community, which has provided many opportunities for our EveryDay Strong initiative to grow in addressing anxiety and depression in teens and youth.

United Way is known for doing great things in our community, and our board is a big part of that. Our board members are integral in making sure United Way is building community trust and investing donations where they will have the greatest impact. They are also guardians of the donations we receive from individuals and corporations, and I would like to thank them for their exceptional work on our board and in our community.
