I wanted to take the opportunity to invite everyone to two separate events, both sponsored by UVU Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism. An event that I wrote about several weeks ago is the free Autism Parent Safety Night.

This event is part of the “Building Safe Communities” campaign to assist families with children or adults on the spectrum. The date is Nov. 3 from 7-9 p.m. at the Melisa Nellesen Center at Utah Valley University, room NB 201-203.

Topics to be covered include how to connect with the 911 system, how and what information should be prepared for a person with autism, how to prevent wandering and safety drills that can be implemented at home and school. The information will be presented by Captain Bill Cannata.

If you are interested in attending you can register at https://bit.ly/3qCSU7w.

The second event, also sponsored by the autism center at UVU, is the annual Super Spectrum Showcase and Soiree. For the first time since COVID-19, the exhibit will be available both in-person or virtually. The exhibit celebrates the wide spectrum of perspectives and expressions available through art. The live showing will be held on Nov. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the Melisa Nellesen Center at UVU. For more information visit http://UVU.edu/autism or contact autismcenter@uvu.edu

And as we say goodbye to October, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween. Keep in mind that Halloween can be a struggle for children and adults with any type of special needs.
