Provo's Pioneer Village mercantile ready for A Pioneer Christmas celebration.

Provo residents and eager guests can take a step back in time and enjoy a frontier Christmas at the popular Provo Pioneer Village’s Pioneer Christmas celebration.

After a two year hiatus, due to road construction and the COVID-19 pandemic, “A Pioneer Christmas” is back and the villagers are ready to receive the public.

The Pioneer Christmas event will be held Dec. 17, 18 and 20 from 5-8 p.m. A special program will begin at 6 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person, or $10 per family, for entrance.

Residents, where possible, are encouraged to dress in period clothing to add to the fun and ambiance of the evening.

Villagers will be joined by storytellers, a musical program, a visit from Father Christmas and refreshments.

“This is the year to come see the Village all dressed up for the season as you meander around the grounds,” said Steve Nelson, director and honorary mayor. “Experience for yourself the sights and sounds of what it would have been like to celebrate an old-fashioned 1800’s Christmas in Provo.”

The special program will include music and dancing. Visitors are encouraged to take their children to the schoolhouse to visit Father Christmas.

Like other times of the year, there will be unique pioneer exhibits in the historic cabins, mercantile, wagons, wood shop, school house and at the blacksmith’s shop.
