The most recent concept design for Family Park in Lehi. The design is not up to date and doesn’t show the all-abilities playground planned for the park.

The Lehi City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution selecting Sandy-based Blu Line Designs to design the new Family Park.

Family Park, to be located on 1800 North between 300 East and 600 East in Lehi, will feature an all-abilities playground, sports courts and fields, open gathering areas and pavilions, an amphitheater, walking paths and a potential sledding hill, although park amenities are subject to change as the building gets underway.

Blu Line Designs has completed several similar park design projects featuring playgrounds, water features, and walking and biking trails. The company was chosen to design Family Park based on its previous work experience as well as its favorable bid price for the park design.

Mayor Mark Johnson speculated that other companies that placed higher bids to design the park may have gone about the bidding process in the wrong way.

“Running a design business myself, I saw those bids,” Mayor Mark Johnson said. “They’re doing this on a percentage of construction; that’s not appropriate for this park.”

According to the city’s agreement with Blu Line Designs, Lehi will pay the company a total of $469,730 for services rendered.

The Lehi City Council passed a resolution on July 12 to make Family Park the top parks department priority for the 2023 fiscal year, placing it above similar projects like Dry Creek Lake, a reservoir that will be located on the border of Lehi and Highland, and Mellor-Rhodes Park, a sports complex slated to sit at South 1700 West and Pioneer Crossing in Lehi.

Out of the nearly 30 parks that Lehi has to offer residents, Family Park is set to be the largest by far.

According to the city’s agreement with Blu Line Designs, work on Family Park is set to commence immediately. The first phase of construction is to be completed no later than Dec. 1, and the second phase is set to be completed by May 1, 2023.

“I’m excited to see equipment down there for the parking lot and the road,” Johnson said. “They were there today.”
