UDOT opens public comment for widening 1600 North in Orem
The need to widen 1600 North in Orem has only grown in the past few years. Now residents can suggest alternative plans for widening it.
The Utah Department of Transportation has identified a preferred alternative solution to enhance mobility for all users along 1600 North in Orem and Lindon.
Residents and business owners and operators are invited to attend public meetings and review the analysis regarding the State Environmental Studyfor widening 1600 North between 1200 West and State Street.
The public is invited to attend either or both an online meeting and in-person public hearing on the following dates:
An online meeting will be held Dec. 13 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The meeting will be held entirely on Zoom. Attendees should register in advance on the project website at http://udotinput.utah.gov/1600North.
The following day, on Dec. 14, will be an in-person public hearing from 6-7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Northridge Elementary School, 1660 North 50 East in Orem.
Information presented will be the same for both meetings. The state-level environmental study identified a Preferred Alternative to widen 1600 North to the south, according to Geoff Dupaix, senior communications manager.
“At these meetings, the study team will provide information on the study team’s analysis process used to identify the Preferred Alternative, all environmental resources considered, anticipated impacts to properties and proposed steps to mitigate or minimize those affected properties. The team will also present the study schedule and be available to answer questions,” Dupaix said.
The public comment period opened Tuesday and will continue through Jan. 6.
