Ten years ago this May, members of the community entered the new Utah Valley Convention Center for the first time.

In the years since, the center, on the block of 200 West between Center Street and 100 North in Provo, has greeted about 1.2 million total visitors and hosted over 2,000 events.

With a decade of wear and usage, it was time for upgrades to the convention center. From June through September, with three weeks in total closure in August, the center went through a few changes.

Utah County paid for the upgrade, which came in at approximately $1 million.

Oak View Group, a nationwide company known as OVG360, manages the convention center.

Danny Wheeler, who serves as General Manager of the Utah Valley Convention Center, is both grateful to those who worked on the renovations and is extremely proud of the venue.

“How fortunate we are that Utah County shares the same vision as our OVG360 team here in Provo and is continually willing to invest the necessary capital funding to maintain our reputation and image as the premier meeting venue in the Western United States,” Wheeler said.

The renovations include:

  • Foam-backed Tarkett carpet tiles installed in the 20,000-square foot Exhibit Hall.
  • Custom-designed Brinton’s Axminster carpet installed throughout the remainder of the convention center.
  • Fresh paint in all pre-function and meeting spaces.
  • Re-poured areas of exterior concrete around venue entrances.
  • LED lighting upgrades in pre-function and meeting rooms.
  • Upgraded large digital advertising signage throughout the venue.
  • Larger entrance mats with the UVCC logo printed on them.
  • State-of-the-art technology upgrade in the Donald Nay Executive Boardroom.
  • Safety bollards installed around perimeter of venue.

“These renovations were just the facelift we needed to maintain the look and feel of a brand-new convention center,” Wheeler said.

The most notable change is the lobby carpeting, which was designed to look like mountains.

With these upgrades, and the recently opened 654-stall Freedom Commons parking garage one block north of the venue, the Utah Valley Convention Center is even better equipped as Utah’s premiere meeting facility.

This week, the center will host a 1,000 person SaintCON technology convention, according to Suzanne Whitaker, director of Sales and Marketing.

Business has been growing substantially, according to Whitaker, since the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. More events are already booked for next year in the convention center than this year.
