Next week, the Provo City School District will hold four meetings in schools across the district to gain public input on their search for a new superintendent. Three board members will be attending each meeting to meet with residents and receive input to bring back to the full board.“The school board would like to hear from the public about what they think is going well in the district and what they think would be valuable to look at differently, especially as it relates to hiring a new superintendent. These meetings will allow the public to learn more about the process the board is following to fill the position and to complete a survey to provide this information,” said Caleb Price, PCSD director of communications.

Parents, teachers and others affected are invited to attend any meeting to share their thoughts. The first meeting will be held on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Rock Canyon Elementary School, followed by a meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Timpanogos Elementary School, which will be presented in Spanish.

“We have a large population of families that have Spanish as their primary language. Having a meeting in Spanish will allow those community members to receive information and provide feedback to the board in the language that they are most comfortable using,” Price said.

The third meeting will be on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Provo High School and the final meeting, which is for school district employees only, will be held on Friday at 2:15 pm at Centennial Middle School.

“It is important to the school board to have an understanding of what the community sees as current strengths of the district, as well as areas where the community might want to see a new or renewed focus. This can help them fine tune the skills and qualifications that they are looking for in a new superintendent,” Price said.

The new superintendent will be replacing Keith Rittel, who has been superintendent of PCSD since 2012, and is retiring at the end of the school year. At a meeting between Provo City officials and the school board in September, Provo school board president Rebecca Nielsen said they hope to finalize their choice to fill the position by February or March.
