Utah County has been home to some amazing businesses and restaurants over the years -- some are still with us and some are not.
Earlier this month, Orem officials announced that Leatherby's, a popular ice cream parlor, would be coming to the city. The announcement marks the return of Leatherby's to Utah County, which used to be located on University Parkway in Provo.
If you have lived in Utah County, chances are, you'll remember at least a few of these other businesses that have closed over the past few decades, many of which Utah County residents would also like to return.
Allen's Super Save grocery store announced the closure of its two remaining stores -- in Provo and Springville -- on Jan. 23, 2018. Their Orem location closed in 2010.
Much to the dismay of residents, after several decades of operations, the Movies 8 in Provo closed in March 2017. The dollar theater will be removed to make way for a new multi-use development called The Mix.
It was a bittersweet day for family and friends on the final day of Broadbent’s Store in Lehi. Broadbent's has undergone many changes since it opened in 1882, but the store officially closed on Sept. 1, 2017
Water Garden’s Spanish Fork 8
In what appeared to be a surprise closure to fans, the Water Gardens Spanish Fork 8 discount movie theater closed its doors in September, 2016.
Serving Utah Valley residents since 1957, Park's Sportsman underwent major restructuring to continue business in the competitive industry in 2013, but eventually closed its doors.
Old Spaghetti Factory
After nearly 15 years in Orem, Old Spaghetti Factory, located in University Place, closed its doors on Dec. 16, 2017.
Goodwood Barbecue Co.
Goodwood restaurant in Orem closed for business on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015. According to the company, the closure would not impact their Utah County customers' catering needs fulfilled at its Draper location.
When it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine in Provo, El Azteca had been a go-to local fixture for 53 years. Originally opened in 1962, a 2015 announcement on Facebook let the restaurant’s fans know the location would be closing its doors permanently at the end of September 2015.
The Orem location announced its closure in August 2017.
Kenny Rogers Roasters
The chain of chicken restaurants once had a location in Orem, but the chain began to struggle and no longer has any locations operating in North America.
After 58 years serving fresh-made hamburgers, fries, fry sauce and milkshakes in American Fork, Parker's Drive-In closed on Dec. 30, 2011 after owner Lillian Parker retired at 80 years old.
If you wanted a full one pound burger, Fuddruckers was the place for you. It was once located on University Parkway in Orem, but now the closest Fuddruckers are in Las Vegas, Boise, Idaho or Reno, Nevada.
Training Table - a Utah original - but not for Utah County. The Provo location of restaurant chain closed down and is now home to a JCWs.
Ottavio's Ristorante Italiano
Ottavio's Ristorante Italiano sat on Provo's Center St. for 11 years before they closed their doors in 2009. For a brief time, fans could get taste at Ottavio's Italian Express in the University Mall, but that location closed as well.
Brand X Burgers
Brand X Burgers, formerly located in Springville, was a no-nonsense burger joint serving hamburgers and shakes, but no frills. It later closed, making way for Firehouse Burger, which has also since closed.
Lon's Cookin' Shack
BBQ fans were thrilled when Lon's Cookin' Shack opened in Provo in May 2006. They also had an Orem location, but both closed down in mid-2010.
An iconic location in Provo, the Malt Shoppe closed on Oct. 31, 2015.
This restaurant chain boasts dozens of locations around the country. There were a couple of locations in Utah County, but now you’ll need to head to Colorado or Idaho for the nearest location.
Rocco’s Big City Deli
A longtime staple in downtown Provo, the underground restaurant serving up sandwiches and wings announced it was closing after Jan. 1, 2018.
Mimi's Cafe, which stood on University Parkway in Orem for years, closed quietly in mid-2017.
Bill and Iva's Cafe
Bill and Iva's Cafe served fresh diner fare for 47 years at its location at 207 S. State Street in Orem.
Yummy's Frozen Custard
If you live in southern Utah County, chances are you remember going to Yummies Frozen Custard in Springville before it closed in 2010. The building was demolished to make way for the city's new 43,000-square-foot library.
Roberts Arts and Craft
Roberts Arts and Crafts, which first opened in Provo in 1963, closed all store locations in January 2012. The craft store chain had locations in American Fork, Orem, Provo, South Jordan and Washington.
Fazoli's, a chain store that offered an assortment of pastas, had locations throughout Utah County including in Provo, Orem, American Fork, Lindon and Springville until they closed all Utah County locations. There are no longer any locations open in Utah.
There is nothing more nostalgic than a good drive-in, and southern Utah County had a great one. The Polar King Drive-In was a favorite in the Springville area for years before it closed down.
Flour Girls and Dough Boys
Flour Girls and Dough Boys in American Fork opened in December 2007. The bakery closed several years later, much to the dismay of loyal customers.
Gloria's Little Italy
In June 2017 the large Italian restaurant on the corner of Center Street and University Ave. closed after 15 years for "rebranding to a new concept." In the space, Good Move Cafe opened up months later.
Pirate Island Pizza
Pirate Island Pizza opened in 2009 in Orem, bringing with it a different sort of dining experience -- a fun one. The restaurant had outdoor playgrounds, televisions, strobe lights and even did pirate storytime for kids. It closed a few years later however.
Sounds Easy Pizza
Sounds Easy Pizza & Video stood at 48 W. 300 North in Orem.
After more than 75 years in operation in American Fork, Towne Cinemas theater closed in December 2019.
Dave and Cranky's
The Provo restaurant with the fun name was described as a "tastefully abrasive American bistro." The short-lived restaurant opened in 2011 near BYU, but closed in October 2014.
