Incorporated on May 5, 1919, the city of Orem kicked off its centennial celebration Saturday first with an event filled with speakers, the unveiling of a puzzle, book and song commemorating the city as well as a balloon drop.
Afterword, the Orem Fitness Center became the celebration hub as different activities and the center’s facilities were free for the community. The 15 activities posed trivia questions concerning Orem’s history. Those who correctly answered 10 or more of the trivia questions were entered in a drawing for various prizes sourced from area businesses, organizations and colleges.
“Orem is a wonderful place because of the people who live here,” said Orem Mayor Richard Brunst. “Above and beyond everything else, Orem is what it is because of strong families, people who care about their neighbors and community, and the kind of individuals who are hardworking, friendly, and watch out for each other.”
Brunst stated that a mayor’s ball would be held on June 1 and also that Orem’s annual Summerfest celebration would be amped up this year, including a 50-percent-longer fireworks display.
