A Provo police officer critically wounded in a shooting Saturday evening in Orem has died.
The officer was taken to Utah Valley Hospital following the incident and succumbed to his injuries, according to Provo police Det. Nick Dupaix.
The incident began when Provo Police learned of the presence of a wanted fugitive near the Bed Bath and Beyond store at 50 W. University Parkway in Orem.
When the officers went to make the arrest, shots were fired in the parking lot at about 9:55 p.m.
The suspect is in custody and there is currently no danger to the public.
A specialized team is investigating the matter. Dupaix said more information will likely be released Sunday morning.
Identification of the deceased officer is pending the investigation.
