The Freedom Festival in Provo runs June 30 through July 4, and has a full schedule of events for everyone in the family. Here are 10 events you don’t want to miss.
When: 7 p.m., Sunday
Where: UCCU Center and Utah Valley University, Orem
What: The service's keynote speaker this year is His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York. Elder Quentin L. Cook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will provide introductory remarks. The event will also include spirited musical performances by bands and choirs. Event is free of charge.
When: 6 to 8 a.m., July 4-6
Where: Bulldog Field, 1100 N. Freedom Blvd.
What: More than 25,000 spectators will have the opportunity to experience approximately 25 of these colorful, giant balloons as part of the ever popular Balloon Fest. Arrive at 6 a.m. sharp to see the balloons inflate. Attendance is free.
Freedom Awards Gala
When: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday
Where: Utah Valley Convention Center, Provo
Cost: $50 per person
What: This year's awards will honor individuals who have shown courage, endurance and care, including Major Brent Taylor's family, Tommy Asher, Christel Sawatze Foreman and Commander Don L. Lind.
Reservations are required. The menu includes boneless beef short rib, fried chicken and citrus salad.
When: 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., July 4-6
Where: SCERA Park, 600 S. State St., Orem
What: Meet history face to face at the 8th Annual Colonial Heritage Festival, a free three-day event for the whole family.
Exhibits: The apothecary shop, blacksmith, cooper, broom maker, gunsmith, spoon maker, potter, bobbin lace maker, bee keeper, chandler, wood worker, women’s clothing, home life, frontier life, and much more.
When: July 3-July 6
Where: Downtown Provo (Center Street and University Avenue)
What: Freedom Days showcases some of the region's finest specialty products, fun hands-on activities, local entertainment and unique foods. There is something for everyone in the family including handcrafted jewelry, live music, kids art, books, paintings, quilts and more.
Fine Art Show
When: 5-9 p.m. July 3 and 11 a.m.-6 p.m., July 4
Where: Historic Utah County Courthouse, 151 S. University Ave., Provo
What: Meet nationally acclaimed artists, see live demonstrations, and purchase original and printed works at the Freedom Days Fine Art Show. Approximately 22 invited artists will display their works and have prints available for purchase.
When: July 4-6
Where: Scera Park, Orem
What: Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of freedom through touch, sight, smell and other interactions with tools and equipment used in wars. More than 50 military vehicles will be on display.
Stadium of Fire
When: 8 p.m., July 4
Where: BYU's LaVell Edwards Stadium, Provo
What: Country music star Keith Urban is headlining this year's Stadium of Fire entertainment. Come for the music and stay for the best seats in town for Provo's spectacular fireworks show.
When: 7 a.m., July 4
Where: Kiwanis Park, 820 N. & 1100 E., Provo
Registration: Racing options include a 10K, 5K and the mayor's one mile fun run. Thousands of participants have run over the past years, and 5,500 runners are expected this year. Wear red, white and blue in your racing gear!
When: 9 a.m., July 4
Where: The parade will folow a slightly different route this year, beginning at 960 N. University Ave. and proceeding south to 200 S., then turning east to 200 E. From there it turns north to Center Street and then turns east and ends at 900 E.
What: This is the largest parade of its kind in the state of Utah, with around 300,000 spectators expected to come.
