SALT LAKE CITY — Two officers are wounded and a suspect is dead after a traffic stop in Salt Lake City escalated into shooting.
Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Robin Heiden says the officers are doing "very well" in the hospital and are expected to survive after the confrontation a little after 2 a.m. Friday.
Heiden says officers had stopped a Jeep in the area of 300 South West Temple and were speaking with the male driver and passenger inside.
She says they wanted to speak more with the passenger, and as he was getting out of the Jeep, he opened fire on the officers.
One was hit in the leg and the other in the arm, but at least one officer fired back and killed the shooter.
The suspect's identity hasn't been released.
