A Pleasant Grove man was arrested on Friday after police officers reportedly found hidden cameras inside the bathroom of his home along with more than 100 pictures and videos of child pornography.

Investigators said John Kimble, 57, secretly recorded three teenagers while they showered at his house, according to a report from the Pleasant Grove Police Department.

A 15-year-old boy discovered one of the cameras on Thursday while he was showering. The “digital camera device” had a lens and power cable hidden inside a candleholder in the bathroom, the police report stated.

“The 15-year-old stated that he verified that it was, in fact, a small, black digital camera with a battery pack on the rear of the device. (He) left the bathroom to get dressed and returned to the bathroom approximately three minutes later to further inspect the device and it was no longer there,” the report explained.

The teenager reported the incident to an adult who previously lived in the home. The adult called the Police Department, and officers obtained a warrant to search the house for any electronic equipment and devices.

During the search, investigators found an “extremely large amount of pornographic videos and pictures containing multiple identified minors depicted in the bathroom of John’s residence,” according to the police report.

The adult who previously lived in the home told officers she believed Kimble would enter the bathroom immediately before and after a child showered to set up and remove the video camera, the police report stated.

The adult also stated she had seen the same hidden camera in the same bathroom but did not tell anyone because she feared retaliation from Kimble, investigators reported.

In interviews with police, Kimble reportedly said he used two hidden cameras to keep an eye on the kids in the home. He also told investigators the cameras contained pornography of the children that was recorded without their knowledge.

“Upon a search of the residence the candle holder with a hidden camera inside was discovered in the bathroom exactly as it was described,” the police reported.

Investigators reported that Kimble denied sexually abusing the children. Officers seized a cellphone, several tablets and other electronic devices with more than 100 pictures and videos of child pornography.

Kimble was arrested on suspicion of three first-degree felony counts of sexual abuse of a child and 20 second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child. He is also under investigation for 10 counts of lewdness, all class A misdemeanors.

Officers also learned of separate incidents where Kimble would reportedly punish a 10-year-old boy in the home and caused “emotional pain and humiliation and were for the purpose of John’s sexual gratification,” according to the police report.

Kimble is being held at the Utah County Jail on a $295,000 bail.
