SALT LAKE CITY — A man was shot and killed by a Salt Lake City police officer who responded to a report of a group of people being threatened by two people with a gun, a spokesperson said.

Officers were dispatched at about 2 a.m. Saturday, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks. When they arrived, a suspect ran away.

Officers chased the man, a confrontation occurred and an officer fired his gun, Horrocks said. The man died at the scene. Details about the confrontation were not released.

Horrocks said he did not know how many officers were involved or whether the suspect had a weapon. The man’s name has not been released.

No officers were injured. The shooting remains under investigation.

Officers are still searching for a second suspect who was reported to be involved in the threats, Horrocks said.
