PROVO -- Flag Day Saturday brought a standing-room-only crowd to the Macey's store parking lot off of State Street for a flag retiring ceremony.
Following approved procedures local Boy Scouts retired several flags on an open fire as those standing by paid tribute in silence during the ceremony.
Several speakers participated in the event including Provo Municipal Council Chairman Hal Miller, who declared June 14 "Flag Day" on behalf of the mayor's office.
Randy Edwards, department commander of the Utah American Legion lead the Flag Retirement Ceremony.
After a presentation on the history of American flag and dedications and words for military families, Provo Boy Scout Troop 51 presented the flags to the crowd before retiring them.
The crowd also was invited to bring flags from home that could no longer be properly displayed.
