Most cities in north Utah County run on lean, mean budgets, and residents in each city differ on how to properly spend those moneys.

Many northern county cities are grappling with similar issues. Most are dealing with aging roads, and are debating how to fund the upkeep and refurbishing of this vital infrastructure. As residential growth blooms in these cities as well, their leaders also must balance traffic congestion with sensible residential and business access. And despite the recent bountiful winter wetness, some cities are also facing water woes – from the need for new irrigation lines to sewer upkeep and repair, to the need for more wells.

Many candidates have added their names to the lineup for these cities’ mayoral and city council races, with fresh ideas and hopes of solving their own city’s issues. Here is a breakdown of the cities’ city election candidates and open seats.

In races with three or more candidates, there will be an Aug. 15 primary election. The top two candidates in all races will face off in the Nov. 7 General Election.
