CEDAR FORT — One adult male has been confirmed dead in a two-vehicle collision that closed State Route 73 in both directions.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at mile marker 24, just south of Cedar Fort.

The accident involved a sedan traveling northbound and a garbage truck traveling southbound. The driver of the garbage truck said the sedan drifted into his lane, adding he made a sharp turn to avoid the accident. The sedan struck the side of the garbage truck.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office said it appears the driver of the sedan was killed on impact.

Authorities believe a medical condition caused the driver of the car to drift. There are no indications drugs or alcohol had a role in the crash.

Cannon said he expected SR 73 to remain closed until after 5 p.m. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes.

The driver's identity has yet to be released.
