The Saratoga Springs library board is holding a fundraiser gala and silent auction Jan. 28 to raise money for the city's future library.

The goal for the fundraiser is $4,000, but the gala is not just about the money.

"We also want to raise awareness and generate excitement for this project," said library board chairwoman Anna Gilmer. "This is a great opportunity to showcase what we've done so far, who's generously given of the time and money, and highlight the progress we've made as well as show what we still need to do to see the project come to fruition."

The event is at Talon's Cove from 6 to 9 p.m. and includes a catered dinner. Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love will be performing.

"I was asked to sing at the gala along with two amazing singers," Love said. "My hope is that they will make up for my shortcomings. I'm a little nervous but very excited and honored to have been asked to do this."

Additionally, Chris Higbee, former American Idol contestant Lea Cabrera, and the Milton Quartet will entertain the audience.

"I think that it will be fun and most of all, I hope that people will come out and support this great fundraiser for our library," Love said.

Significant progress has already been made in the effort to establish a library in the city, she said. For months, Saratoga Springs residents have been donating books, money and time in hopes of getting a library for the city.

"The residents of the community have blown me away with their generosity in donating as well," Gilmer said.

There have been monetary and book donations as well as thousands of volunteers who gave time in getting the library off the ground. At least 28,000 books were donated by local residents.

"We have also had some people outside our community drop books off as well, and we expect that number to keep growing as people generously donate from their personal libraries at home," Gilmer said.

Tickets are available at saratgospringslibrary.blogspot.com for $35 a person, $60 a couple, or $250 for a table of eight and spot on the Founding Families wall in the future library. For more information contact Anna Gilmer at dgilmer@gmail.com.
