Residents of Utah County spent Sept. 11, 2001, like most other Americans, watching the images on the news out of New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, praying and hugging their loved ones. 

At BYU, the regular Tuesday devotional was changed to a prayer meeting, where then BYU President Merrill J. Bateman spoke to students.

The American Red Cross saw an sharp increase in blood donors in the county that day, and many residents went to their churches to pray with others in mourning.
