Tiny hat, baby boots and ponies filled the Salem Rodeo Arena as the Salem Days Little Buck-a-Roo Rodeo took center stage. All contestants for the rodeo had to be 16 and under and featured the fan favorite events Mutton Bustin' and steer riding.

Rodeo chairman and Salem resident Todd Jones said he loves how the event passes on the rodeo traditions to the youth while also seeing the resilience of the younger athletes.

"They fall off and get a face full of dirt and cry, but then they get right up there again wanting to ride," said Jones about seeing the kids of all ages compete. "There's no quit in them.'

The skill level of the competitors range from first time kids hanging on to sheep for dear life to athletes who have entered high school level competitions.
