Letter: Mitt Romney is correct.  “America is in Denial.”

By Staff | Jul 9, 2022

In his July 4th Op-Ed in the Atlantic, Mitt Romney states, “I have witnessed time and again — in myself and in others — a powerful impulse to believe what we hope to be the case….”

His remedy for this is, “leadership.”  He cites the great leadership of several great world leaders:  Winston Churchill of Great Britain, our own Abraham Lincoln, Lech Wałęsa who led the movement to bring down the Iron Curtain, Martin Luther King Jr., and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy who has led his proud nation as they have battled against the atrocities ordered by the war criminal, Vladimir Putin, dictator of Russia.

His dismal assessment of our senators and representatives is particularly telling, “Our elected officials put a finger in the wind more frequently than they show backbone against it. Too often, Washington demonstrates the maxim that for evil to thrive only requires good men to do nothing.”

It is a rare thing for an individual to be less concerned about re-election than in declaring truth to power!  Senator Romney has, time and again, demonstrated that he will do and express what his integrity, conscience and principle-based beliefs dictate.

Our world, our nation and our state desperately need more such leaders who will, with power, declare “We are in denial.”

Thank you, Senator Romney!
