While in California this summer shopping for groceries, we found not a single plastic bag in sight but merely a small, tidy pile of paper sacks with handles. Upon our use of one we were charged, I think 15 cents.
California has apparently taken the plunge and placed a ban on the provision of single-use grocery sacks at most stores. A charge is also stipulated of at least 10 cents per recycled paper bag made available.
