Juel Belmont
1934 — 2024
Juel Andersen Belmont passed away gracefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024, and has been reunited with her beloved husband, Johnny.
Born on July 20, 1934, in Lehi, UT, Juel was the eldest daughter of Culver R. (Doc) Andersen and Lois Peters Andersen. Growing up on American Fork’s Main Street, she enjoyed a joyful childhood filled with movies, radio programs, and Christmas magic. As the “only child” for the first five years, she had an extraordinary childhood.. Her fondness for her hometown grew as she attended Harrington School and American Fork High School “the big red school on the hill,” where she was a member of the marching band and played the flute under the guidance of KJ Bird, American Fork’s John Philip Sousa. She was charming and the bell of the ball with countless dates, and friends. During her senior year, Juel met Johnny on a blind date, facilitated in part by her father’s pool table.
She pursued further education at the University of Utah, where she joined a sorority and was a cheerleader. A turning point came when she learned of Johnny’s rumored date with a “dark haired girl”. The next morning, she called Johnny for a ride home, sealing their future together. Their connection was immediate, leading to their engagement and marriage on November 4, 1953. Along with their two daughters, they settled in American Fork where they created a home of warmth and love.
She later earned an associate degree in the secretarial field from BYU and taught Merchandise Display at Utah Technical College (UVU) for four years. Juel also worked at Clarks, managing window displays, and at The Naturalist store in Salt Lake City. With Johnny, she co-managed their store, John Sidney Belmont LTD, in Provo. Following its closure, she devoted her time to preserving the history and beauty of American Fork, serving on various committees including the city council, historic preservation, and beautification committees. Her commitment to her hometown was unwavering.
Juel and Johnny enjoyed traveling with friends and cherished time with their daughters and grandchildren, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire. But their greatest joy was being together. We love knowing they are together again.
Juel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Vicki Knudsen, and great-granddaughter Lilly Warren. She is survived by her daughters Liza (Chris) Carter and Sally (Scott) Mayfield; grandchildren Rachel, Melissa, Sam, Hank, Sarah, John, and Rob; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her younger sister, Linda Metos.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Aspen Ridge Residence of Lehi. Their exceptional care and the time they devoted to Juel were truly remarkable. Your dedication and compassion made a significant difference, and we are deeply grateful for all that you did
