Jay Howard Butterfield

Nov 11, 2025

Jay Howard Butterfield, age 63, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully in his home on November 10, 2025.

Jay was born on May 20, 1962, in Orem, Utah, to Franklin and Ruth Butterfield. He met and married the love of his life, Lynette Steiner, in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity on June 22, 2012 after meeting on LDS singles and being matched by the usernames of “They call me red” and “Bloodbanker”. Following a year of courtship, Jay and Lynette were united in marriage, sharing 13 wonderful years together. Throughout their marriage, he lovingly accepted her children as his own, providing care and guidance to his family.

Jay was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served a full-time mission in Northern California, sharing his testimony of the Savior with all who would listen. Over the years, he held many callings and especially cherished his time serving in the bishopric alongside his close friends and “heavenly brothers,” Jeff and John.

A proud graduate of Brigham Young University, Jay dedicated 35 years of his professional life to Intermountain Healthcare, where he worked as a medical technologist. His diligence, compassion, and integrity touched the lives of many of his colleagues.

Jay’s passions included temple work, studying the scriptures, and music. A gifted pianist, he found joy and peace in sharing his talent with family and friends. Jay shared his talent and knowledge by giving piano lessons to those who shared his love of music, both young and old. Above all, Jay was a man of faith, love, and kindness–a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynette Butterfield of Springville, Utah; his stepmother, Elena Butterfield of Orem, Utah; his stepchildren, Stephanie (Logan) Green of Rexburg, Idaho; Heather (Thomas) White of Ashton, Idaho; and Zelda Strawn of Springville, Utah; his brothers, Bryan (Carolyn) Butterfield of Frisco, Texas; Vince (Janice) Butterfield of Salem, Utah; and Fred (Analisa) Butterfield of Roosevelt, Utah; as well as three cherished grandchildren.
