Dear Editor:

I love America. As a father and grandfather I am doing all I can to promote Liberty. If you are like me you are very concerned about the moral decay of this nation. What is to be done? May I share with you a lawful remedy the Founding Fathers gave us and then a few principles to consider?

When I was growing up I was always told to “just say no” to anyone who tried to offer me beer, cigarettes or drugs. So it is with not only individuals, but communities, states and a nation. When faced with an unlawful order, “just say no,” then stand until justice is served.

For example, using the self-evident truths found in the Declaration of Independence, “the spirit of the Constitution,” when same-sex marriage was legalized all our governor had to say was no. Then, so the state is not left in crisis, having said no to judges, the governor is to go to the legislators and ask, on behalf of the people, to have the judges removed.

We do this for the sake of law, for the sake of constitutional integrity and for the sake of self-government. This is not the breakdown of law but upholding the law.

We cannot create a right our Creator has ruled to be wrong. Same-sex marriage cannot be equated with African Americans riding on the back of the bus. It is not a civil right.

The Declaration of Independence reminds all that this nation must be guided by “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God,” meaning the laws of God. The Constitution was created to protect Natural Law principles. Why do our legislators and governor refuse to exercise this lawful and legal remedy? I believe a lack of knowledge.

I believe every legislator, every governor, every president and every American needs to ask themselves this question. Is the Declaration of Independence America’s moral creed or is it a historical artifact?

The Constitution was created to protect the principles in the Declaration of Independence. Here is the underlying principle using both the Declaration and Constitution. “We never use our freedom to destroy Liberty.”

The reason same-sex marriage is wrong is because it destroys Liberty. We never use our freedom to destroy gospel principles.

This Independence Day let us give thanks to our Creator for the “blessing of Liberty,” for the blessings of gospel principles and to “proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”
