EPHRAIM--Cheston Madsen, 41, Mt. Pleasant, was killed instantly Aug. 22, in a tragic industrial accident in Ephraim.

Apparently, Madsen had jumped into a trench to attach a chain in preparation of removing an old septic tank, using a backhoe.

The bucket of the backhoe swung, hitting Madsen in the head, pinning him between the side of the trench and the bucket.

Investigating officer Sanpete County Deputy Eric Zeeman said the death was an accident.

Madsen ran Madsen Plumbing and was a well-known and respected plumber in the valley. He was a long-time member of the Sanpete Search and Rescue and served as commander at one time.

He leaves behind a wife and four children.

Funeral services were held Aug. 27, in the Mt. Pleasant North LDS Stake Center.
