RICHFIELD — North Sanpete wrestling team is sending 16 athletes to state this year after a successful season. The boys traveled to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield and competed in region for spots in the 3A State Wrestling tournament. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m., at Utah Valley University, Provo on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16.
During the Richfield tournament, wrestlers Luis Rodriguez, 170, and Dalton Anderson, heavyweight, took first place; Jaden Kaibetony, 195, placed third; Laramie Roberts, 183, fourth; Kalon Bailey, 113, Kylan Taylor, 120, and Hayes Bailey, 132, each placed fifth; Kasey Curtis, 106, Adrian Lemus, 126, Kaysen Sperry, 152, Spencer Olson, 170, and Anthony Heinlen,220, sixth; Conner Taylor 160, and James Stiglich, 220, seventh; Kable Curtis, 182, and Chayden Scott, heavyweight, eighth.
“We have some good spots on the brackets and have a very good chance of bringing home three to five medals this weekend. The boys are poised to make a statement for North Sanpete wrestling and I think they will perform well and make us proud. They are some of the hardest working athletes around and are still getting better each week. It will be a fun weekend,” said Coach Bryan Strain.
