Head Coach: Mark Wootton (NEW IN 2016)

2015 record: 7-5 overall, 4-2 Region 4 (3rd)

Playoffs: Lost to Sky View 40-30 in quarterfinals.

Players to watch: Dayne Christiansen, So. RB/WR; Isaac Thacker, Sr. DT; Kaino Tula, Sr. DL; Braxton Rapp, Sr. WR; Adam Ryner, Sr. LB; Christian Newman, Sr. TE

Outlook: Coach Mark Wootton said he’s been most impressed with how hard his players have worked.

“We’ve pushed them pretty hard but they never show it,” he said. “I can see it in their faces how committed they are to being better.”

The coach said it all begins with quality young people.

“These are real good kids in the community,” he said. “They come to us with positive habits and attitudes, so we already have a solid foundation to work with.”

Wootton noted that the program suffered some heavy losses to graduation.

“We have very few kids with returning varsity experience,” he said. “We’ll get them ready but they’re going to have to catch up real quick.”

As for the region, the coach said it’s one of the toughest in the state.

“It’s full of very competitive football programs. We’ll have to play very well to have a chance to make the tournament,” Wootton said.

Tradition: “We have a great tradition here. A lot of schools don’t have winning records but Pleasant Grove does. The kids around here grow up wanting to be Vikings. People know we’ll have athletic kids that play hard.” -- head coach Mark Wootton
