BYU Football Opponent Power Rankings: Bowl destinations will be determined

Here’s our weekly ranking of BYU football’s opponents with a look at their schedules and matchups.

1. No. 9 Baylor (10-2 overall, 7-2 Big 12)

Results: Texas Tech missed a 53-yard field goal as time expired and No. 8 Baylor survived to take a 27-24 victory.

Game On: Saturday in Big 12 Championship Game vs. No. 5 Oklahoma State, 10 a.m. MT (ABC)

What’s Up? The Bears are bowl eligible and will await an invitation.

2. No. 14 Utah (9-3 overall, 8-1 Pac-12 South)

Results: Cameron Rising threw three touchdown passes and Tavion Thomas ran for 142 yards and a score as No 19 Utah topped Colorado 28-13.

Game On: Friday in Pac-12 Championship Game vs. No. 10 Oregon, 6 p.m. MT (ABC)

What’s Up? The winner of the Pac-12 title will likely go on to the Rose Bowl.

3. Utah State (9-3 overall, 6-2 MWC Mountain)

Results: Logan Bonner threw for 306 yards and five touchdowns as Utah State earned a spot in the MWC championship game with a 35-10 victory against New Mexico.

Game On: Saturday in WCC Championship game vs. No. 19 San Diego State, 1 p.m. MT (FOX)

What’s Up? The Aggies are bowl eligible and will await an invitation.

4. Arizona State (8-4 overall, 6-3 Pac-12 South)

Results: Arizona State outscored Arizona 24-6 in the second half and earned a 38-15 victory in the Duel in the Desert.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? Arizona State is bowl eligible and will await an invitation.

5. Washington State (7-5 overall, 6-3 Pac-12 North)

Results: Max Borghi rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown and Washington State handed Washington its biggest loss in the history of the Apple Cup with a 40-13 victory.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? The Cougars are bowl eligible and will await an invitation.

6. Boise State (7-5 overall, 5-3 MWC Mountain)

Results: No. 21 San Diego State claimed a spot in the MWC championship game by overcoming a 16-3 deficit to beat Boise State 27-16.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? Boise State is bowl eligible and will await an invitation.

7. Virginia (6-6 overall, 4-4 ACC Coastal)

Results: Brennan Armstrong threw for 400 yards and a touchdown but Virginia lost its rivalry game to Virginia Tech 29-24.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? Virginia is bowl eligible and awaiting an invitation.

8. USC (4-7 overall, 3-5 Pac-12 South)

Results: No. 13 BYU stopped a fourth down attempt by USC inside its own 20-yard line with less than a minute to go as the Cougars survived for a 35-31 victory.

Game On: Saturday at Cal, 9 p.m. MT (FS1)

What’s Up? USC has decided to hire Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley as its next head coach.

9. Georgia Southern (3-9 overall, 2-7 Sun Belt East)

Results: Georgia Southern was held to 194 total yards and a field goal in a 27-3 loss to Appalachian State.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? The Bulldogs are not bowl eligible.

10. South Florida (2-10 overall, 1-7 AAC)

Results: Central Florida kicked a field goal midway through the fourth quarter to help secure a 17-13 victory against South Florida.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? The Bulls are not bowl eligible.

11. Arizona (1-11 overall, 1-8 Pac-12 South)

Results: Will Plummer threw for 346 yards and a touchdown for Arizona in a 38-15 loss to Arizona State.

Game On: End of regular season

What’s Up? The Wildcats are not bowl eligible.

12. Idaho State (1-10 overall, 1-8 Big Sky)

Results: Idaho notched its first shutout since 1997 with a 14-0 victory against rival Idaho State in the Battle of the Domes.
