Utah Valley head coach Mark Madsen announced on Monday that John A. Logan College standout point guard Cam Alford has transferred to Utah Valley and will play for the Wolverines this season.

“I am honored to welcome Cam Alford and his family to UVU,” said Madsen. “Cam is an explosive point guard who has proven to be able to play all types of styles of basketball. He’s one of those unique guards who can get into the paint at will to finish at the basket or distribute to a wide-open teammate. He can also move to the two-guard position where his scoring has flourished. Cam has had multiple 30+ point games in his career. Cam’s leadership abilities are huge and he will be a key addition to the UVU culture and team. Cam is an all-around tremendous player and we are very fortunate to have been able to sign him.”

Alford, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound point guard from Indianapolis, Indiana, led John A. Logan College to a school-record 29 games and the No. 4 seed at the NJCAA Division I men’s national tournament this past season. Alford averaged nearly 10 points while shooting 45.1 percent from the field. He also averaged 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

In his two seasons at John A. Logan, Alford played 55 games with 47 starts. He averaged 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. In two seasons, he shot 46.2 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Alford also played one season at Alabama A&M where he averaged 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds as a freshman. He set an Alabama A&M record as he scored 32 points against Arkansas Pine-Bluff — the most points ever scored in a single game by a freshman in program history.

The Indiana native prepped at Brownsburg High School where he was a 1,000-point scorer and earned All-State honors. He was also named to the All-USA Central Indiana Super Team.

Alford still has two seasons of eligibility remaining and will compete for the Wolverines in the upcoming 2022-23 season.
