BYU Football Opponent Power Rankings: Oregon only Top 25 team on list

Here’s our weekly ranking of BYU football’s opponents with a look at their schedules and matchups.

1. No. 12 Oregon (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12)

Last results: Bo Nix ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for two more scores as No. 13 Oregon raced past Stanford 45-27.

Game On: Saturday at Arizona (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12), 7 p.m. MT (Pac-12)

What’s Up? Jayden de Laura threw a school record six touchdown passes to lead Arizona past Colorado 43-20. … Oregon leads the overall series with the Wildcats 28-17 and has won the past two games, including a 41-19 victory in Eugene last season.

2. Arkansas (3-2, 1-2 SEC West)

Last results: No. 20 Arkansas surrendered 555 yards, including 317 on the ground, and lost to No. 2 Alabama 49-26.

Game On: Saturday at No. 23 Mississippi State (4-1, 1-1 SEC West), 1 p.m. MT (SEC Network)

What’s Up? Mississippi State forced four turnovers and Will Rogers passed for 329 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-24 upset of No. 17 Texas A&M. … Arkansas leads the overall series with the Bulldogs 18-13-1 and has won the past two meetings, including a 31-28 victory last season in Fayetteville.

3. Baylor (3-2, 1-1 Big 12)

Last results: Monaray Baldwin caught seven passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yarder, but it wasn’t enough as No. 16 Baylor lost to No. 9 Oklahoma State 36-25.

Game On: Bye

What’s Up? The Bears had won nine consecutive home games before their loss to Oklahoma State. … Baylor’s next game is Oct. 13 at West Virginia (5 p.m. MT, FS1).

4. Notre Dame (2-2)

Last results: Bye

Game On: Saturday vs. No. 16 BYU (4-1) in Las Vegas, 5:30 p.m. MT (NBC)

What’s Up? Notre Dame is coming off its best performance of the season, a 45-32 victory against North Carolina in Week 4 where the Irish ran up 576 total yards (289 passing, 287 rushing). … Notre Dame leads the overall series with BYU 6-2. The two teams last played in 2013, a 23-14 Irish victory in South Bend.

5. Liberty (4-1)

Last results: Dae Dae Hunter ran for 121 yards and accounted for three touchdowns to lead Liberty past Old Dominion 38-24.

Game On: Saturday at UMass (1-4), 1:30 p.m. MT (ESPN+)

What’s Up? UMass held a 13-0 third-quarter lead against Eastern Michigan but lost 20-13. … Liberty leads the overall series with the Minutemen 3-1 and has won three in a row, including a 62-17 victory in Lynchburg last season.

6. Boise State (3-2, 2-0 MWC Mountain)

Last results: Trailing 13-0 at halftime, Boise State scored 35 unanswered points on five rushing touchdowns in a 35-13 victory against San Diego State.

Game On: Saturday vs. Fresno State (1-3, 0-0 MWC West), 8:45 p.m. MT (FS1)

What’s Up? Logan Fife threw for 157 yards and two interceptions in Fresno State’s 19-14 loss to UConn. … Boise State leads the overall series with the Bulldogs 16-7 and won last year’s meeting 40-14 in Fresno.

7. East Carolina (3-2, 1-1 AAC)

Last results: Holton Ahlers threw for 465 yards and six touchdowns, with CJ Johnson catching seven passes for 197 yards and four scores, as East Carolina raced past South Florida 48-28.

Game On: Saturday at Tulane (4-1, 1-0 AAC), 1:30 p.m. MT (ESPNU)

What’s Up? Third-string quarterback Kai Horton tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tyjae Spears in overtime to give Tulane a 27-24 victory against Houston. … East Carolina leads the overall series with the Green Wave 12-6 and won last year’s meeting 52-29 in Greenville.

8. Stanford (1-3, 0-3 Pac-12)

Last results: Tanner McKee threw a pair of second half touchdowns but Stanford couldn’t catch No. 13 Oregon in a 45-27 loss.

Game On: Saturday vs. Oregon State (3-2, 0-2 Pac-12), 9 p.m. MT (ESPN)

What’s Up? Oregon State suffered four turnovers, including three interceptions by Clark Phillips, in a 42-16 loss at No. 12 Utah. … Stanford leads the overall series with the Beavers 59-26-3. Oregon State won last year’s meeting 35-14 in Corvallis, breaking a losing streak of 11 games against the Cardinal.

9. Wyoming (3-3, 1-2 MWC Mountain)

Last results: Wyoming managed just 256 total yards in a 33-16 loss to San Jose State.

Game On: Saturday at New Mexico (2-3, 0-2 MWC Mountain), 5 p.m. MT (CBSSN)

What’s Up? Miles Kendrick ran for a pair of touchdowns but also threw two interceptions as New Mexico lost to UNLV 31-20. … Wyoming leads the overall series with New Mexico 38-36 but the Lobos have won two in a row, including a 14-3 victory in Laramie last season.

10. Utah State (1-4, 0-1 MWC Mountain)

Last results: Former Orem High quarterback Cooper Legas threw for two touchdown passes and ran for a third in his first college start as Utah State lost to No. 19 BYU 38-26.

Game On: Saturday vs. Air Force (4-1, 1-1 MWC Mountain), 5 p.m. MT

What’s Up? The Air Force ground game finally got on track late in the game as the Falcons held off Navy 13-10. … The Falcons lead the overall series with Utah State 5-4. The Aggies won last year’s meeting in Colorado 49-45.

11. South Florida (1-4, 0-2 AAC)

Last results: Gerry Bohanon threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in a 48-28 loss to East Carolina.

Game On: Saturday at No. 24 Cincinnati (4-1, 1-0 AAC), 1:30 p.m. MT (TBA)

What’s Up? Ben Bryant threw two touchdown passes and Cincinnati scored two other TD’s on fourth down to open its defense of the AAC title with a 31-21 victory against Tulsa. … The Bearcats lead the overall series with South Florida 12-7 and have won four in a row, including a 45-28 win in Tampa last season.

12. Utah Tech (1-4, 0-1 WAC)

Last results: Jeremiah Dobbins ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns to lead Abilene Christian to a 26-10 victory against Utah Tech.

Game On: Bye (Next game Saturday, Oct. 15 at Northern Iowa (2-3, 2-1 MVC), 3 p.m. MT

What’s Up? Utah Tech missed a field goal and couldn’t convert on fourth-and-14 from midfield on its two previous possessions before Dobbins scored his third touchdown. … Northern Iowa’s defense held Indiana State to one red zone touchdown in five opportunities in a 20-14 victory.
