The BYU softball team meets together before the start of a game during the 2022 season.

BYU softball head coach Gordon Eakin announced the hiring of assistant coach Todd Judge on Wednesday.

“Todd was born to coach,” Eakin said. “He has been one of best travel ball coaches in the country the past 15 years. In all my years and experience with softball, I don’t think I have ever been around a coach that knows the game at a higher level. He has the ability to push players to be their very best both on and off the field. We are very excited to add him to our softball staff. Todd has a great future at the highest levels of college softball. I look forward to working with him every day to lift our team to higher levels going forward.”

Judge served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cougars last season, specifically coaching third base. He will continue to coach third, and also work with the catchers, serve as the recruiting coordinator and strength and conditioning advisor, and oversee hitting instruction, defensive play and base running.

Prior to BYU, he coached travel and high school baseball for 10 years, travel softball for 15 years and junior college softball for one year. Judge spent three years as a junior college baseball strength and conditioning coach, and was both the co-founder and head coach of the Oro Valley Sun Cats Softball club, who are currently ranked 19th in the country for 18U Softball by the US Club Rankings.

Judge has placed over 100 players in collegiate softball and baseball, also spending 24 years of ownership in numerous fitness facilities. In 28 years of personal training, he has trained D1 baseball and softball players, Minor League Baseball players, PGA golfers, NFL players, CFL players and D1 college coaches.

Hailing from Oro Valley, Ariz., Judge earned a degree in exercise science at Arizona State, where he met his wife, Chris, a four-year letter winner in gymnastics. They have two daughters, Mackenzie and Maddie, who both play softball. Mackenzie played two years at Pima Community College, and Maddie is currently a junior at Embry Riddle University in Prescott, Arizona.
