When the BYU has played Boise State at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, the home team often has worn blue jerseys to blend into its unique blue turf.
In the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday afternoon, the Cougars took a lesson from Boise State, and wore its own royal blue jerseys with matching blue pants, and fans on Twitter loved it.
After a Western Michigan botched punt, the Cougars took an early lead on a touchdown pass by Zach Wilson to Dylan Collie.
But in the second quarter, a fumbled reverse by BYU led to Western Michigan leveling the score on a 33-yard run by Jamauri Bogan. Then tacked on a 47-yard field goal to take the lead at halftime.
Wilson was 18-for-18 passing for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
BYU beat Western Michigan, 49-18.
It’s a tired comment now but I’ll say it anyway: would still love a full-time return to royal in all sports— Chris Bernal (@clbernal) December 21, 2018

My grandma has the volume turned up so loud watching BYU in the Potato Bowl I think it’s probably a tad quieter on the 50 yard line.— .christmas krampus. (@holdyourbutts) December 21, 2018
Sometimes I hate the forward progress rule. If you get hit so hard after catching a pass that you go back five yards, that should be where the ball is spotted.— Chase D. Troutner (@Captain_Strongo) December 21, 2018
A nine yard punt? That’s actually really difficult to do and I think that’s why people were cheering because they witnessed greatness.— Jonny Linehan (@jlinehan9) December 21, 2018

Dear BYU coach: You're ahead 7-0 with 10:00 in the half. Why go for it on 4th and 1 at mid-field? Your defense is pitching a shutout. The other side has done nothing. So you give them the ball at mid-field after your failed 4th down play? #Idiotcoaches #FamousIdahopatatobowl— Matt Stevens (@newsmatt57) December 21, 2018
So stupid. Why run a trick play when your offense is moving. C’mon BYU.— Jake McCleary (@JMCCLEARY_10) December 21, 2018
Apparently BYU AND Toledo need to retake Tackling 101.— Spiky Dash(ing Through The Snow) (@Chris_SpikyDash) December 21, 2018
That right there was the worst missed tackle job I've ever seen by BYU
hahahahah BYU fumble on a reverse up 7 in opponents territory near end of half, then cant fall on the fumble and squirts out for WMU to recover, then WMU stopped on 4th down play and somehow no one tackles him and squirts out for 40 yd td run. welcome to today pic.twitter.com/9tw3hNY5Z6— TOMMY G (@TommyG) December 21, 2018
Anytime the Odds makers pick BYU as a heavy favorite, BYU will be sure to prove the odds makers wrong. 🙄— SarcastYc Coug (@bluebloodcoug) December 21, 2018
This defense sorely misses Corbin Kaufusi.— David Nixon (@D_Nixon) December 21, 2018
The good news is BYU usually plays better in the 2nd half and they start with the ball— Glen 🎄 (@ghanson25) December 21, 2018
BYU fans must collectively be on Santa's naughty list because we're all getting a huge lump of coal right in time for Christmas.— William Jay (@NotOnymous) December 21, 2018

Steve Sarkisian set a BYU single game record by completing 91.2% of his passes against Fresno State in 1995. Zach Wilson appears poised to challenge that mark. Wilson is 13-of-13 for 186 yards and two touchdowns through eight BYU drives. #WMUvsBYU #BYU #PotatoBowl— John Coon (@johncoonsports) December 21, 2018
So happy for Takitaki. He’s faced adversity during his time at BYU, but he’s stuck it and is an ambassador on and off the field for BYU. Making himself some money with this today’s performance— Robby McCombs (@rtmccombs) December 21, 2018
I call interceptions before they happen; I've doing it years. My wife is so use to it, she not even impressed.— Dr. Derwin L. Gray (@DerwinLGray) December 21, 2018

Tanner may get an entire quarter. Fitting and deserving place for him to end his career.— P Norton (@P_Norton) December 21, 2018
Although I wish both @kalanifsitake & @zachkapono were repping the Utes, I'm happy to see them doing great things at #BYU. Dominant performance for BYU today and great way to end the season! The future is bright for you guys. #BYUFOOTBALL #GoCougs— Steve Gerritsen (@stevegerritsen) December 21, 2018
Glad to see Mangum in the game. Wasn’t perfect by any stretch but did a lot for BYU through his career. Nice send-off for a guy who worked really hard.— Michelle Bodkin (@Bodkin247Sports) December 22, 2018
Wilson was perfect today and looked so good. Kudos to the receivers too. I’ve never seen them play better.— Greg (@gregcrabb) December 22, 2018
