The UMass defense is giving up 52.4 points per game and 555.1 yards per game, ranking dead last in the nation in both categories.
On Saturday, in the first half while hosting BYU, the Minutemen gave up 49 points and 440 yards to Zach Wilson and the Cougar offense.
The 440 yards of total offense ranks No. 4 for BYU in any half of football.
Wilson threw for 293 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
Jackson McChesney ran for 56 yards and touchdown as well.
With all of that offense in the first half, Cougar fans enjoyed the scoring output, and some even started to feel bad for UMass.
To start the second half, the BYU defense held UMass to another three-and-out, but a muffed punt gave the Minutemen the ball in the redzone and they scored a quick touchdown to cut into the BYU lead.
BYU beat UMass, 56-24.
BYU up 7-0 and driving deep in UMass territory to end the first quarter. The Cougars aren't perfect but are taking care of business right now.— Jared Lloyd (@JaredrLloyd) November 23, 2019
BYU got Tyler Allgeier as a walk on. Had no real connection to BYU. He's an effective running back and proving to be an effective linebacker as he learns the position. Great player who went right under everyone's radar out of Fontana, CA.— Jeff Hansen (@rakoto10) November 23, 2019
Thank god this game is gonna be over by halftime. Go Cougies— Cougies by 90 (@beanmace) November 23, 2019
Or BYU needs to quit scheduling some of these High school teams and rejoin the Mountain Worst where they have something to play for in Novemberm— Stewart Isaac (@utefan621) November 23, 2019

It’s crazy to think that BYU did more than this in a half to Neuheisel’s UCLA team with Max Hall and Co.— CougFan82 (@CougFan82) November 23, 2019
7 passing TDs and 59-0 at the half.

Me: I’m from Utah
Concessions guy: what is the name of your team?
He thought we were Yale.
If BYU kneeled down from now on, they would still beat UMass 😂— Egyptian Ute in San Diego (@mhelal2) November 23, 2019
Remember when we called him “Goldroyd”? Pride truly does proceed the fall for BYU.— Joseph Hawkins (@OhJoeHenry) November 23, 2019
BYU had three SCORING plays longer than UMass' total yardage in the first half.— Phillip Morgan (@pjmorgan11) November 23, 2019
BYU giving up a TD to UMass after putting up a million is heartbreaking for the under. And also pathetic.— Krombopulus Masset (@massetam) November 23, 2019
And there goes my shutout prediction 😔— tanner mangum (@tannermangum) November 23, 2019
BYU and Alabama beating the snot out of FCS schools. Tough to really say who’s better at this point.— Tanner Martin (@TanMart03) November 23, 2019
So far I’ve paid about $1.56 per BYU touchdown. that’s a pretty good deal tbh thanks FloSports— brett (@brettbar) November 23, 2019
If you want to talk about "integrity" when it comes to sports gambling, maybe try to see who got to BYU last night in their hotel and/or at halftime in the locker room. It was 49-nil at the break. Now UMass comfortably covers to make "some" folks happy.— Rex Beyers (@Rex_Beyers) November 23, 2019
