MESA, Ariz. -- The UVU baseball team moved into the championship game of the WAC baseball tournament on Friday night, scoring four runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh to go on for a 13-8 victory over Seattle U.

The Wolverines will play the winner of a Saturday afternoon elimination game between Seattle U. and New Mexico State in a championship game at 8 p.m. (MT) Saturday for the WAC tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. If UVU loses that game, a second championship game would be on Sunday morning.

Seattle U. took the early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Seattle increased that lead to 6-1 in the third. But UVU began a comeback with two runs in the fourth.

In the sixth, the Wolverines took the lead for good. Craig Brinkerhoff opened the inning with a single. After an out, Spencer Gothberg walked and Jake Atkinson singled in a run. After a strikeout, Jordan Schlehuberg walked before Trevor Howell came up with a two-out, two-run single. Zac Willis added another two-out RBI single and UVU led 7-6.

The Wolverines put it away in the seventh. Brinkerhoff again led off the inning with a single. Mike Krueger and Gothberg added consecutive singles to load he bases. After a strikeout, Justin Erlandson walked to drive in one run. Schlehuber singled in two runs. Then Howell bunted and a Seattle U. error allowed two runs to score. Greyson Bogden singled in another run. Brinkerhoff added his second single in the inning before a strikeout ended the frame with UVU sporting a 13-6 lead.

Jake Mayer got the win on the mound, coming on in relief of Patrick Wolfe in the third inning and throwing 5.2 innings of three-hit ball and striking out four. He didn't give up any runs until allowing a one-out, two-run homer in the ninth. Logan Hold finished up, getting the final two outs.
